Greetings summer lovers,

The sun is shining and vacation plans might be looming, but if you’re suffering from chronic or acute pain, it’s pretty tough to enjoy this gorgeous season. At Integrated Pain Consultants, we’re committed to offering you the best and newest pain alternatives, including CBD oil.

This Is No Snake Oil: CBD Oil For Pain And More

If you haven’t tried CBD oil yet as a tool for your pain management, it’s high time to try it out! Dr. Nikesh Seth and the entire team of providers recommend CBD oil to some patients who are good candidates for this all-natural solution. It can be a great tool to treat pain with virtually no negative side effects. CBD is the numbing agent found in marijuana and hemp plants, while THC is the component that provides a “high.” Oil that is exclusively CBD is designed strictly to treat pain and is not for recreational use.

However, since the cannabis plant has been deemed a Schedule 1 drug since 1937, there hasn’t been much time for doctors and anesthesiologists like Dr. Seth to research the effects. Fortunately, many studies are now underway, and CBD is proving to be a safe, effective, organic, non-addictive alternative to other pharmaceutical pain management options. It’s shown to be useful to treat not just pain, but also seizures, immune system disorders, insomnia, and inflammation including arthritis.

IPC is keeping an eye on the latest studies and research so we can continue to provide patients with the ultimate solution for their pain and medical issues. From helping smokers with withdrawal symptoms to helping those treating eating disorders, CBD may be the solution you’ve been looking for. Schedule a consultation with one of our highly qualified board-certified providers to learn more about CBD oil and other complementary treatment options available at Integrated Pain Consultants.

Ouch, My Knee!

Ouch, My Knee!

Knee pain is a common complaint, and often chronic. Most people want to avoid highly addictive “pain killers” as well as surgery, and with good reason. Luckily, there are a few options to treat knee pain in a safe way without the need for surgery or the risk of addiction to opioids.

The first step is determining the cause of the pain. Osteoarthritis is a very common cause, and knee arthritis can be debilitating if not treated right away. It’s a top cause of disability in the U.S., and usually develops over time. There’s no cure for osteoarthritis, but there are some relatively easy ways to prevent and slow down the process including changing activity levels, losing excess weight, physical therapy—and viscosupplementation.

The last option is a fast and easy procedure that involves injecting hyaluronic acid (which naturally occurs in the body) into the knee joint. Also known as HA, this acid is part of the joint’s synovial fluid, but its production naturally decreases with age and some disorders. By increasing the HA in an arthritic knee, it may be possible to minimize pain and increase movement capability.

Patients can require anywhere from one to five shots. In some cases, excess fluid may need to be removed via a syringe before viscosupplementation can begin. Side effects may include warmth, swelling, or minor pain, but these symptoms go away quickly. Viscosupplementation isn’t recommended for everyone with knee pain, but has been shown to yield great results for some osteoarthritis patients.
